This is FANMADE* Conceptual Art I did of Cyclops in his 90's Jim Lee suit with the Y-strap, featuring James Marsden. It's a revision of the same costume design I did in 2019 featuring my then-fancast, Theo James.

Costume design always has to have context, and when I first designed this in 2019, I thought of it as something that Cyclops wears in Danger Room Simulations rather than something he actually uses out in the field. It's the flashy first appearance suit that comes before the more grounded design, like Steve Roger's Captain America suit in Age of Ultron, or Sam Wilson's Cap suit in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
It was supposed to be for a reboot of the X-Men when they were still starting out, and may not fit the context of James Marsden being the experienced Cyclops, (I was actually going to release it with the face of an actor rumored to be cast as Scott) but I know people are dying to see him in the iconic 90's Jim Lee costume!
One of Cyclops' uncanny abilities is his spatial awareness; something he developed so he could learn to angle his Optic Blasts strategically. With that in mind, I put a lot of geometric lines all over his suit, with a little trapezoid-like shape appearing here and there. When I revised this in 2025, I wanted to streamline the suit a bit, and really go for Cyclops' silhouette, especially with the boots (which, I admit, I sort of rushed in the 2019 version). I even made a version where I changed the yellow piping all over his suit to blue just to really simplify that silhouette.
When I first did this in 2019, I studied the visual language of MCU Costume Design long and hard, I and wanted it to feel like it could fit in with their Universe somehow. Of course, that was before all the Multiverse stuff, so NOW, I want to release designs that feel completely separate from the MCU's prime timeline, and I've actually had some designs like that in my back pocket for a while.
